I had to maneuver her to a spot where there was a plug in that worked. So I was holding her in the washstall. I turned them on expecting explosions but she didnt act toooo bad. Alot of huffing and puffing and wanting to chew her lead rope to bits, which I let her to a little, for now. I even got them kinda close enough to clip some whiskers. It will be a slow process but its a start, she did better then I thought she would. Will try again tomorrow...

Riding Lesson

Had a riding lesson on Ringo today. The times got all messed up, so I was at first hurring to try and make my lesson on time, and when I got outside to the arena, she told me that she switched times again, so I had time to warm Ringo up, which was a good thing, he was acting fresh. I started off by riding him in the outdoor arena. He started off Ok at first but started getting uptight and spooking (stable hand was raking leaves nearby ) So I rode him out the arena, only to have him freak out( who knows why) and try to take off with me many time, and act like he wanted to rear and buck. Acting like a complete nutcase, more then he has in a long time. I finally took him to the indoor to try and get him to relax. Which he never really did.

We ended up spending the whole lesson trying to get him relax and bend around my leg, using many different exercises and transitions. Enika just wants me to ride him more, today he just had a bad day I guess. Im going to the barn tomorrow to do just that. Hope it goes well....

New Vid

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_u56t08pX74M/SO6cEO2jE2I/AAAAAAAAABQ/Di5A-rGc8q4/s320/baby_redone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255309411708244834" />
Quick post, I promise to do another one that is longer soon. It was a decent sized show, as far as shows Iv been to so far here. It was trailer only, so of course I ended up holding Ringo all day, which is a pain, more so because there was NO shade at all and I ended up with a cherry red face at the end of the day.

We got there early, and I unloaded Ringo right away and lunged some of the oats out of him. He was acting extremely fresh, neighing at everything and flagging his tail like a deer. I was thinking " Ah crap, he is going to be a nutter head today. " But once I got on him and was riding him around, he settled down and actually started to behave.

Our first class was a Arab/Half Arab class open to hunters and saddlebreds. He did extremely good and even tho I ended up with a 4th out of 8 I think, Enika said I should of won it easy. Oh well, thats all that matters. The next class was the Arab/Half Arab championship class and we ended up getting 2nd out of 6 i think. Again, he is AWESOME. Better then Iv ever had him go.

We did 3 more classes after that. Each one he did very well in, only once did he pick up the wrong lead at the canter but pretty sure the judge didnt see it. Only a few things that needed working on. All in all, was a good day. I was very happy with his performance. Just goes to show you just how smart he is. He knew when he was going in to a class and he knew when we reversed that we were going to canter, which we didnt cause the judge switched it up and had us trot, which was a good thing for Ringo. He needs it different in the ring.

Click to go to a site where some pictures of us at up. There was a lady walking around all day taking pictures. They all turned out so good! That she is charging people and trying to bite them when they are trying to feed her. I do know that she does have an attitude problem, but I worked with her today, walking her around, grooming in cross ties (needs more work) and standing in the wash stall, she didnt behave that bad. She stood pretty well for me in the wash stall. I had a bucket of water and a sponge and was using that on her, she was fussy for the first part but it all ended well. I just think people need to be more aggressive with her. She can intimidate people really well, you need to have a really firm hand when doing anything with her.

All in all, I feel like she is doing better with me and that is a good step.

More pics--

<embed src="http://p.webshots.com/flash/smallslideshow.swf" flashvars="playList=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.webshots.com%2Fslideshow%2Fmeta%2F565196303wIXloO%3Finline%3Dtrue&inlineUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.webshots.com%2FinlinePhoto%3FalbumId%3D565196303%26src%3Ds%26referPage%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fgood-times.webshots.com%2Fslideshow%2F565196303wIXloO&postRollContent=http%3A%2F%2Fp.webshots.com%2Fflash%2Fws_postroll.swf&shareUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fgood-times.webshots.com%2Fslideshow%2F565196303wIXloO&audio=on&audioVolume=33&autoPlay=false&transitionSpeed=5&startIndex=0&panzoom=on&deployed=true" menu="false" quality="best" width="425" height="384" name="WebshotsSlideshowPlayer"base="http%3A%2F%2Fp.webshots.com%2Fflash%2F" wmode="opaque" allowScriptAccess="always" loop="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http%3A%2F%2Fwww.macromedia.com%2Fgo%2Fgetflashplayer">

Electra 14months

Ele's New Half Sister

Ele's baby half sister was born last night at around 11:00pm.
She was born super fast and was trying to get up and walk while she was still coming out! Tuesday we tried it for the first time and she did pretty good. Wiggled around some but didnt try anything stupid, to busy trying to eat the cross tie. So that lesson is going well. We went over it again today.

New lesson was going in the wash stall, which she did, I was surprised. You could tell she was nervous and as soon as I turned her around, she wanted to bolt out of it. But we went in and out 3 times before I called it a day. I also want to spend more time with Ringo and I want to buy him some stuff for showing this year and I need that money from Baby. She has become harder and harder for me to work with. I think I just might be in over my head with her. Which I hate admitting. Doesn't help that I cant work with her everyday. I can only get out to the barn 2-3 times a week cause of gas prices. Its annoying. I just want her to walk around the outdoor arena calmly without trying to run me over and trying to run back to the gate.

Well, finally today something clicked in her head and she decided to be good. We walked all over the ring and she behaved so well. I hope she remembers her good behavior and is good again tomorrow. I took some new pictures of her, agian. She is just getting so big, I love taking her pictures.

I rode Ringo today, trying to jump him over some small X-rails. He was such a baby, getting so nervous and spazzing out. I was cantering him and he completly fell to his knees and I flipped up on his head, riding his head for like 2-3 secs. LOL, was crazy. I thought I was going to bite the dust. He got back to his feet and I flipped over his head and somehow landed on my feet. It was crazy and a big rush. Ringo was OK and so was I, so I got back on him and rode him more. Later on, he decided he didn't want to turn around to go back to the fences so he reared up, really high. I was so surprised that he did that, I hardly got after him after he went back down. He hasn't done that in about 5 years!

So here are some new pictures..

Outdoor Fun

Last few days, I have been taking baby outside to the outdoor arena and letting her run around some, and working leading and stopping. I was going to take some nice vids of her running around but my camera's battery died only in few secs into doing it. I got about a 20sec clip here. Not much but you can see how big she is, she was very feisty today, I was praying she wouldn't try to jump over the arena fence!

Sorry for the crappy camera noise. It was windy out today. I suggest maybe turning down the vol. :)

Sell Time?

Iv decided to try and push to sell my baby. I dont want to fully but I want to work more on Ringo and trying to get to be a licensed riding instructor and to do those things, I dont want to be working. So I need to sell her. She is going to be so awesome I know it and she is terribly cute. She is doing better about feeding time, not as nasty anymore, mostly impatient about wanting to get fed NOW! But what horse isnt.

Im going to try asking around at the barn, see if anyone is intrested. He did pretty good. I rode the first half with a martingale on so he would listen to me more and not try to take off so much. After a while I took it off and he behaved himself. I hope to start taking lessons again from Enika next month. We could prolly use it.

The Little Monster is doing good as well. She is getting so big! (See pictures) She leads pretty well now and stands pretty good for the farrier. Her new thing now is being mad/angry/pissy/ whatever you want to call it when she is getting fed. She likes to put her ears back and make mean faces and pretend she wants to kick at you if you dont feed her fast enough. I have been working on this and getting after her when she trys to put her butt towards me or trys to bite me. I hope its just a phase....

End of Week 1

Well, week one is now over and thank god for that. Yah weekend!
Today was really cold out so we didnt put the horses out, which really saves me on time. That being said, I got done early today so I decided to ride. How fun that was... /sarcasm Even after lunging him, Ringo was still wanting to spook at any noise made, which was all the time.
So we spent the whole ride, which last only 25 min walking around the arena, trying to keep from spooking. I finally just lunging him a whole lot more, making him really work. I hope he gets over this, its like starting all over again with him.

Baby was inside all day, and I noticed her taking a few naps. It seemed that the whole side of the barn was napping today. I saw about 5-7 horses laying down napping, was kinda funny. Before I left I went to her stall to say good-bye, and she was napping again. So I went in and scratched her all over and gave her a small piece of carrot to munch on. She is shedding like crazy, and I ended up getting covered in white hair, how fun.

Will update next week after her farrier appointment.

Job Started

Man, am I sore and tired. I started my job working at the barn yesterday, feeding, cleaning stalls and turn-out. Its been so long since I have worked this hard, my body isnt used to it at all. Everything hurts right now. But baby is getting so big, so I think it is worth it. I took my Ipod with me today, and that seemed to make the stalls go by faster.

I have been mostly doing lead lessons and picking feet up lessons for the most part. What else is there to do right now? Not much. But she is doing those things very well. Her first farrier visit will be next week, to get her feet trimmed. That should be exciting. But it will be done by Joe, Enika's husband and he is good.

I have been thinking about getting her a stall toy to mess around with. Lynn said I could borrow one from one of the paddocks to see if she will even use it. See how it goes.

Past few days, I have only been lunging Ringo, since I have been wayyy to sore to even think about riding. No biggy, not like we need to get ready for anything.

Will try to get some new pictures of baby up, she is getting SO big and shedding already!

Job & New Barn

I got a job at the new barn I am now boarding my horses at. Its called Dorbill Stables in Bridgewater. This place is great and I am really enjoying having my horses here.

Here is the Link to the place. As I said, its pretty nice.

I have both the baby there and Ringo and I think they both like it too. Lots of new friends.

Its a big more expensive to keep them there but if I start this job, I should be able to keep both of them. We'll see.

Baby has been doing good. We have been taking her outside to the paddocks and she has been leading like a pro. ( most the time) and will go in and out of her stall OK. Everyone at the barn loves her and think she is the cutest, which she is. Been very cold out and everything frozen. Been mostly working on picking feet up and tying, both of which she is doing good at. Today the vet came to give her the yearly shots she needs. She got stuck 4 times in all, and I have to say she did pretty good. She jumped at first but didn't trash around as much as I thought she would.

Ringo is getting a new home soon. I am moving him to a new barn, called Dorbill Stables. I drove there the other day, and I have to say, its pretty nice. Has a big indoor! Woo. Link- http://www.dorbillstables.com/ if you really care to see it. Im going to wait awhile till I move BB, since she doesnt require much and this barn she is at is cheaper.

I am actually thinking about maybe selling this nice foal, only because I dont know if I can manage pinching my penny's any longer. I am currently trying to get some sort of job, since that would help out and maybe then I wont have to sell her. Enika and I both lead her out to the arena, she behaved good getting there. We let her go and she had some fun running around like a crazy fool. She has been inside for over a month, so she felt really good. Two horses from the main barn are leaving tomorrow, so we decided to move her up from the foal/pony barn to the main barn, that way she has a small paddock to move about in. Lets hope she doesn't try to jump any more fences!

I still don't know where I am going to move my horses to, Ekina has been roaming about trying to get spots for her boarders, I will try to go where she goes. As you can see from the pictures of her standing next to me. I am just about 5'10 so you can get an idea of how tall she is getting. And extremely cute, she loves to be patted and loves attention. I took her out of her stall on Wed. and she was very skittish still. I didnt walk her around to much, didnt want to test my luck with her good behavior, she could easily take off leaving me in the dirt. The training lessons in the weeks to come are going to be... interesting.....

Electra 6 months

Update

Due to crappy weather, my baby wasn't weaned until today. He reared up in his paddock and caught his leg in the fence and pretty much tore it off, completely broken in two. There was totally nothing anyone could do except to get the vet out there fast to put him down. I'm not going to go in to the details that I have learned because they are just to gory and horrible. To bad the fences she wants to jump are over 5 feet! She was overseen yesterday trying to jump the arena fence, only to of course not make it and crash into it! She completely busted all 3 boards, which are very stout! I didn't bring my camera with me today, but I will when I go on Friday and snap some pictures of her new crashed in fence. I cant believe how ornery she is. ( She wasn't hurt in her attempts. )

I worked with her some today, while her mum was in a lesson, she was very full of herself and bitchy. Always trying to sneak bites and/or just not want to move. I feel I am going to have my hands VERY FULL with her....

On a very sad note, I was told today that the owners of the barn are selling it! Enika herself was very surprised and we are both shocked. She herself has some horse's boarded at the place and now me I have 2. Uncertain times are ahead for me and my horses, not knowing where we will be at in the future. Hopefully still under Enika, cause I'll need help with my baby and Ringo as well.

Seems to be doing better...

My little girl seems to be doing somewhat better. Iv been working her when her mum is taking a lesson in the ring, that way I have more room to work with her. I start off working her with the rope NOT wrapped around her butt and do that until she starts acting up, then I will put the rope around her and work her that way for a while. Then I will start over, without it. She still likes to bite but hey.... what can ya do...

I was talking to Enika about her and she was saying that she looks like she is growing to fast, more so then she should be for her age. Mostly because she is stealing her mum's food and still nursing. I think we should wean her now. If it continues to get worse, she could get Contracted tendons or Epiphysitis? Where her bones grow faster then her tendons, so its important that she doesn't get any more grain for a while!

I will try to get a updated picture up soon!

Slow Going...

It seems so slow going right now, with her training. I feel like one day she might be learning something but the next time I try the same thing with her, its like its all forgotten. But I guess that is the way of things. Today they were already in there stalls when I got around to saying Hi to her. I found her laying down in the corner of the stall. I crept in and knelt down next to her.
Thankfully, the sawdust was fresh and clean, so I ended up sitting down next to her. I kept calm and she didn't seem to mind to much that I was there, which is good. I want to try to build some more trust with her, and having her not jump up when I came in the stall is a good step forward I think.

She pretty much knows how to go forward on a lead when asked a few times, but sometimes...she just doesn't want to, stubborn as a mule! Then goes the butt rope, and even then, takes alot of tugging to get her moving forward. But I think I am making that slow progress....

I know this is just about my horses but....

GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

World Series CHAMPS!!

Mike Lowell!!! Sometimes I wonder just what I got myself into. Its those days when she is acting like a crazy idoit that I want to beat over the head.

Again, here is a problem with me not having much patience.

I have to remember that she is not yet 5 months old. Its like thinking your 2 year old is going to mind perfectly and NOT trash the house everyday or make a mess eating. Its just not going to happen. Its probably a good thing I don't have kids yet. At lest with Ele I can smack her on the nose when she tries to bite and put her back in her stall when I'm done dealing with her.

Of course it would help if I would work with her everyday. I know I can blame my weather, which I do alot, its just that I have to get over some laziness with this new horse. She needs to be worked with pretty much everyday, if she is going to remember anything that I try to teach her. She isn't like Ringo, who remembers alot of what I teach him and even after a month off, will still preform well. But that DID take years for him to be like that.

Its just been years since I really worked with any foal, its taking some getting used to again and I have never raised one from 4 months on. I got Ringo when he was 4 and he could lead and lunge and stuff. This baby knows nothing!

The techniques of teaching a foal to lead really isn't HARD, it just takes time, patience, and some arm strength. ( Especially with this baby!) Nothing like trying to control a 300lb+ animal who is wanting to go off one way, while you don't! I just need to get myself in a better mind frame.

Need to take it slow.

Need to work with her daily!

Need to stay upbeat and optimistic about my new baby, even when she is trying to eat my arm!

Need to remember how freaking awesome she is going to be if I do this right.

Baby Biter

Worked with Ele yesterday, was really crappy and rainy out, so I could only work with her in her stall. But I went yesterday, rode Ringo and spent some time working with the baby between her mama's lessons. She is very feisty and can be stubborn but I think she is learning. I can tell she knows what I am asking of her but only does it on her own time, when she wants to. After about 10 minutes working with her, she started to get frustrated and wanted to pull me around and swing her head about. She also likes to try and bite my leg and the lunge line constantly and she gets mad when I get after her about it, almost like she throws a small temper tantrum. But I feel like I shouldn't be to hard on her just yet, to much discipline at once probably isn't good, sides, she is only 4 months old still, I have to keep remembering that. She cant and wont learn everything as fast as I would like and I don't want her to become resentful at me for always pushing her and getting after her, I try to give her good scratches and pats as much as I can. I cant wait till she is fully leading and gets weaned. Then I think I will start taking her for walks and such. So much to teach her!

I am glad I bought her and not some noob who doesn't know what the hell they are doing. I bumped into the lady who was suppose to buy her before I swooped in and took her. She is a new rider and would of had NO idea how to deal, train or raise a baby. She just wanted to buy her so she could keep her with her mama! HA. Like Enika would of let that anyways, babies HAVE to be weaned, no matter how much they might hate it the first few days. Gah, I hate seeing nubs who have no idea what they are doing, buying foals thinking that since they are small and cute....it will be just so easy to raise and train them.... /sigh.... Its like those people that have kids and really have No right to be reproducing.... we all know the type...

Another Lesson!

Worked with Ele today, doing more leading lessons. Going to be working with her agian tomarrow, hoping for more progress!

Horse Show!

Alright, I will get around to write about the horse show I went to on Sunday, Sept 16th 2007. It was a local open show, the was pretty close. I took my NSH gelding, Ringo with me. It was going to be our first show since moving to Mass, so I was kinda nervous. I also never been to this type of show before, Iv only had experience with Arabian shows and I knew this one would be somewhat different.

We got there pretty early, but it was already packed! It was a show out of your trailer type, so we had to find a decent spot to park. Showing out of the trailer sucks, that's all I have to say about it. Lol. Since my horse doesn't like to tie nor is he a fan of being in the trailer (unless he is with friends or dead tired) so I had to pretty much hold and walk him around all day, which sucked.

We had 5 classes we were to ride in, and that seemed like alot for us! Didn't help it was pretty warm and sunny out. So anyways, around noon I get on and start warming him up and trying to tire him out some so he wont be to crazy in the ring. Our first class went OK, tons of horses in it but we didn't place cause me and Ringo both messed up. Our 2nd class went better, was about 17 horses in it and we got 5th place. Pretty good I think. As each class went by Ringo was getting more tired and kinda pissed off. When we went into the show ring, he just wanted to run around like an idiot. But by our last class, I think he was tired enough to behave, and we ended up getting 1st out of 4. All in all, the show went good. Other then getting a sun burn and an aching back. I was proud of Ringo for being a good boy and doing better then I thought he would. Below are some pictures of me and him.

Horse Show

First Lesson!

Today we had our first leading lesson. I didnt work to long with her, as I didnt want to get her frustrated. She seemed confused at first, about why I had a lead line wrapped around her butt, but she seemed to understand that pressure on that line made her want to walk forward. We spent a few min. working on walking forward and stopping, she didnt like the stopping part, mostly wanted to drag me around the stall. I ended on a good note with her willing walking forward a few steps and stopping. Gave her lots of pats.

I also took tons of new pictures of her also, this cute one of her face. She wouldnt stand still and let me get many good full body ones, she kept wanting see what I was doing with the camera the whole time. Her name is Carousel's Electric Jigsaw or Electra and she is very cute and pretty much the type of horse I always wanted. She is going to grow to be tall and flashy. I wanted to start a blog, which I never really did before, to chart and mark my progress with my new baby, as well as make any comments on her or any going's on at the barn, which always seems busy! I also own a 9 year old NSH gelding named Rock the Ring (Ringo) whom is boarded at the same place. We actually just competed on our first horse show since coming to Mass. Ill blog about that later.

This is the only current picture I have of her, about a month ago, and now she is even bigger! Will have to get more pictures of her soon. Anyways, she is about 2 months old, almost 3 and soon to be getting her first leading lesson. Its good to get this started early, especially with this young girl, as she is going to grow tall fast! She is already wondering a good distance from her mom when taken out of her stall, she is getting a mind of her own!

She is a good baby, don't get me wrong, I've patted her pretty much everywhere and she doesn't seem to mind. She gets handled all the time and is a big barn favourite, everyone loves her. Because of that, I'm sure I will be getting alot of help when it comes time to work with her. Everyone cant wait till she grows up, she is going to be awesome! My instructor and barn manager (Enika) has promised to help me work with her, so with her help, I have no doubt that she is going to turn out great!

Tomorrow will be her first leading lesson, Ill be posting updates on how its going with my new baby!
